National Police Chief Sues ASTV Manager for Libel


The attorney of National Police Chief filed a libel lawsuit against ASTV Manager newspaper, which is owned by People’s Alliance for Democracy core leader and media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul, for publishing a serials which implied that the national police chief is the cause of the delay in solving the case of the attempt on Sondhi’s life.

The attorney for National Police Chief General Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Bancha Parameesanaporn submitted a libel lawsuit to the civil court against ASTV Manager Company, which publishes ‘ASTV Manager’ newspaper, and its editor, Tul Sirikulpipat.
Bancha claims that ASTV Manager newspaper published messages from June 25th to July 21st implying that Patcharawat was an obstacle in the investigation of Sondhi’s attempted assassination case.

Patcharawat’ lawyer said the messages clearly tries to incriminate his client and has caused the public to have misunderstandings about the police chief. The ciivil court accepted the lawsuit and scheduled the first hearing for September 7th at 1.30 pm.
