Chamlong Lists 4 Main Reasons Why PM Somchai Must Resign
During his nightly appearance on the People’s Alliance for Democracy stage, senior PAD leader Chamlong Srimuang listed four main reasons why PM Somchai Wongsawat must resign.
Core PAD leader Chamlong Srimuang announced on the PAD stage last night that he has the most plastic hand clappers in Thailand. He told the protesters that he’s received a donation of 6,200 plastic hand clappers from a Thai business man in China. The PAD leader has in turn given the hand clappers to another key PAD member, Sondhi Limthongkul, for them to be sold and the proceeds used to finance the production of more October 7th DVDs.
He also announced that over 6,000 plastic hand clappers have been donated to the PAD.
The plastic hand clappers have become a symbol for the PAD. They have been use as a tool to express the PAD’s unacceptance of the Thaksin regime and the Somchai administration. On several occasions, PM Somchai Wongsawat has been under the hand clapper attack, a more serious attack happening at the Information and Communications Technology Ministry last week.
The PAD leader then commented on a claim that the PAD’s demand for new politics is impossible. He responded by saying that the PAD has already been successful at driving out former premier Thaksin Shinawatra in 2006. He added that so far, in 2008, the PAD has been successful in its efforts to prevent the amendment of the 2007 charter and the removal of Samak Sundaravej from the premiership.
Chamlong listed four main reasons as to why PM Somchai Wongsawat needs to resign. First and foremost, Chamlong cited Somchai’s role in the October 7th bloodshed. Secondly, Chamlong believes his failure to prove that his family relation to ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra will not influence his action as a PM is another reason for Somchai to step down. In addition, Chamlong believes Somchai is incapable of administering the country. And lastly, according to Chamlong, Somchai should resign because he was found guilty of dereliction of duties by the National Counter Corruption Commission.
The PAD leader also responded to the call for peace made by Chaipattana Foundation Secretary-general Sumet Tantivejkul. Chamlong said the PAD has always been peaceful, unlike the anti-PAD groups which have always been trying to provoke a clash with the PAD.
